CREC Holds Successful Summer-in-the-city Events for Cornell Students and Professionals!

The Cornell Real Estate Council was finally able to host in-person events for Cornell interns,  associates and industry professionals working in New York City this summer. This came after a two year hiatus due to COVID-19, so it was exciting to continue this CREC summer intern tradition.

With up to 40 students in attendance, a coffee gathering at Ground Central kicked off the events.

Planned and hosted by Board member Lynn Gray, Founder & CEO of Campus Scout, students ranging from first years to MBA associates working in investment, government, development and asset management firms among others, showed up, despite extreme heat, to network with other Cornellians in real estate. In addition, CREC Board members including Lynn, Dave Rupert, President of Griffin Capital, and CREC Women and DEI Committee Member Lera Covington, Real Estate Associate and MetLife Investment Management and Dual Master of Real Estate and Master of Regional Planning degree candidate, showed up to support these students who have been working in New York City this summer.

This after-work coffee meetup focused on outreach to current CREC student members in addition to promoting membership to students not as familiar with CREC, through leaders and members of a diverse range of Cornell student clubs and organizations affiliated with commercial real estate.

Building off this buzz, CREC also was able to host an in-person dinner for Board, Advisory Board, Committee Members and Leaders, at Pete’s Tavern, mid-week in late July. This event, open to all CREC leaders who were in or able to get to New York this summer, was organized by Doug Weill, Founder and Co-Managing Partner of Hodes Weill & Associates, also a CREC Board member. The purpose of the event was to thank active CREC leaders for their efforts over the past year, and continue an in-person New York City summer tradition. Paul Rubacha, Board Chairman and  Co-Founder and Principal of Ashley Capital, was also in attendance, along with a dozen other CREC leaders ranging from students to young and experienced professionals alike.
